The first major eruption of La Soufriere Volcano was last April and since then there have been thirty-two others. Approximately 20,000 people were evacuated from their homes, most of whom were farmers, given that the lands adjoining the volcano are used primarily for agriculture.

The project seeks to address small ruminant producers access to sustainable nutritious protein-sources in Antigua who are significantly affected by climate risks (droughts and floods), poor soils, inefficient water use and poor management practices.

 

Training was based on successful experiences of Costa Rica and Jamaica

Entities related to the islands’ agriculture sector shared their technical viewpoints to enrich the document that will guide the Institute’s cooperation actions over the next four years.
